Bilton Silver (Rugby)
Throughout its existence since 1893 the mission of Bilton Band has been to serve its community. In 2018 we do this with three bands; the Training band—a thriving group which involves 80+ young people and adult learners each week, the main band and the Evolution Band which was recently formed to bridge the gap.
The main band has a varied membership, and continues to nurture players with individual memberships of up to 60 years, whilst pursuing its policy of introducing players from the Training and Evolution Band as soon as they are ready.
We are conducted by Anthony Hodgetts. Tony brings a wealth of experience with him. He served in Canada, Northern Ireland and Germany with the 1st Battalion Staffordshire Regiment and in 1981 he was selected to attend the Bandmasters course at the Royal Military School of Music.
Between 1984 and 1992 Tony served as Bandmaster of the 1st Battalion the Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) serving in Scotland, Germany, Northern Ireland and the Gulf. On leaving the military Tony continued his career in music as a peripatetic music teacher.
