Shirley Band

Shirley Band are delighted to be performing once again at Pershore Midsummer Brass Festival. The band is an active contesting band currently competing in the First Section. Established in 1919, the Shirley Band is a traditional British brass band from the town of Shirley in the Borough of Solihull in the West Midlands.

Every year we have a full programme of concerts in Solihull, Birmingham and throughout the West Midlands and the surrounding region, supporting local community events and activities. We are looking forward to playing at our annual Last Night of the Proms concert in September. This year we are very excited to announce that we will be welcoming Luke Barker, principal cornet of Flowers Band, as our featured soloist. In December we have our Children’s Christmas concert (always a highlight of the year for us) followed by our Christmas Concert, along with several other concerts during the year. Please visit our Facebook page ShirleyBand1, or see our website for details.

This year we have had to say goodbye to Morgan Hart, one of our BBb players. However, we are very proud to announce that Morgan, now known as Award Winning Specialist Airman Hart, has joined the RAF Central Band after being awarded the Dusty Miller Memorial Trophy for embodying RAF Core values during his basic training. He joined us as a young teenager, but soon developed into a valuable member of the bass section, playing both EEb and BBb bass during his time with us. We have enjoyed being a part of his journey towards his career in the RAF, and wish him the best of luck in this new chapter of his life.

Whether you are a player and would like to join the band, would simply like to come to a rehearsal one evening to sit in with the band, or if you would like to book a brass band for your concert, fete, wedding or any other event in the area, please feel free to contact us at shirleyband1919@gmail.com.
